| Brit from Hovet, NOR says: | See others from this town | 12-10-2010 | | | Back in 1991 I got divorced and the agreement with my ex-husband was that our daughter would celebrate Christmas alternatly with me and him. So in 1992 I packed her off to see her Dad and packed myself off to visit my sister, who lives in Hovet in Hallingdal. This is an 8 hour drive in the winter. We had agreed that my brother-in-law was going to be Santa and he should arrive a little after 6 in the evening. But suddenly at 3 the doorbell rings and my sister asks her daughter to go and open the door - "it is probably Santa" ("can't be" thinks I). But outside IS Santa, and not only Santa, he has TWO of his reindeer with him. At first I thought - haha - he has brought out the stuffed animals from the cellar - but suddenly one of them turns her head and looks at me... So they are live - a reindeer mother and her calf. It turns out that the neighbour had been able to borrow these (fairly) tame reindeer from a friend and for the rest of the holiday these to were staying in his garden - it was as if Santa never left us that year. I have always been very practical about my daughter not being with me any Christmas - she is with her father and I'm sure she has a good time. But when Santa and the reindeer showed up on the doorstep I'd really wish she was there! |
